We (Rayaan, Aananjay & Shannon) participated as a team in the IMS Management Maestro Championship 2024 – a business challenge competition.
A total of 70+ teams of Grade 11 & 12 students participated from schools and colleges across Mumbai & Thane.
There were 3 rounds of competition, which included a debate round on our topic ‘does the gig economy do more harm for Indian workers’ and a final presentation with very in-depth Q&A by a panel of judges on our chosen topic ‘War is good for business.’
We placed first overall and as the Management Maestro Champions won a prize of Rs 45,000 in addition to trophies and medals.
I read somewhere Warren Buffet started investing at the age of 11. I read it late, I was already 12 and about to turn 13 when I expressed my desire to my family to start investing. My father opened a trading account in his name to be jointly managed by us a month before I turned 13.
We started with an initial corpus of Rs. 1 lac (USD 1250) and with a rule of not investing more than Rs. 20,000 in any one scrip. At first I started off with tips from other family members or my parents friends, some worked and some didn’t. I was then told that any company I want to invest in its important for me to do some homework and arrive at the reason I want to invest in that and for what duration. What was the target price.
A snapshot of my research and reasons for buying a company's stock can be seen in image attached .
The pandemic began almost two months into me starting to invest. That brought about a great opportunity to buy some blue chip companies at really low prices. I took that opportunity and continue to hold some of those stocks.
At present my stock portfolio comprises 36 stocks and has delivered an XIRR of 28.18%.
I have also learned how to research a company for its fundamentals and understand different sectors and macro factors that affect a stock and this has made some of the content I learn in IBDP Economics come alive.
